The Electric Picnic is an annual music and arts festival, which has been staged at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, County Laois, since 2004. Electric Picnic began as a one-day event in 2004, with a capacity of 15,000 people. Over the years the festival has grown to a three day camping event, reaching a capacity of 41,000 people in 2014.
The Electric Picnic festival was voted the Best Medium-Sized European Festival in the 2010 European Festival Awards and has regularly been voted Best Big Festival at the Irish Festival Awards since they began in 2007.
The Electric Picnic has received widespread international acclaim, described as “Ireland’s version of Glastonbury”. US magazine Billboard called it as “a magnificent rock n roll circus, a textbook example of everything a festival should be” and Rolling Stone described it as “one of the best festivals we’ve ever been to”.
